Job summary

Save the Children in New Bern, NC, is seeking a Program Aide on‑call/Substitutes to support infant, toddler, and preschool programs across multiple sites. You may travel to program sites and assist with daily classroom management, kitchen duties, and general operations.

The role emphasizes safety, confidentiality, and partnership with families, with the supervisor reporting to the Education & Inclusion Manager or Center Director.

Qualifications

• Must be at minimum 18 years of age.
• Minimum high school diploma or GED.
• Certification as applicable by Head Start or childcare regulations.
• Within 90 days of employment, must obtain basic first aid and pediatric CPR certification.
• Demonstrated knowledge of working with infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children.

Responsibilities

• Apply clear practice and procedure in day-to-day execution of job.
• Organize self and manage time to get things done.
• Keep manager informed of important issues.
• Build effective relationships within workgroup and with children/families.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Assist classroom staff in all classroom activities.
• Serve as temporary substitute in the periodic absence of the Assistant Teacher or Teacher.
• Provide custodial support as needed (cleaning, bathrooms, security).
• Complete routine kitchen/dining room chores and assist with food service.
• Adhere to Head Start standards and maintain confidentiality.
