Job summary

Save the Children in Newbern, TN is seeking Program Aides On-Call to provide educational, relational and social experiences for young children across Head Start programs. The role may involve classroom, kitchen and janitorial duties, with potential travel to program sites and home visits.

Reports to the Education and Inclusion Manager or Center Director. Ideal candidates will be 18+, have a high school diploma or GED, English proficiency, and the ability to work with children with disabilities;

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Minimum high school diploma or GED.
• Certification as applicable by Head Start or childcare regulations.
• Within 90 days of employment, obtain basic first aid and pediatric CPR certification.
• Demonstrated knowledge of basics of working with infants, toddlers, and preschool children.
• Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Demonstrated ability to follow directions and take initiative.
• Demonstrated ability to keep all information on families confidential.
• Demonstrated ability to work with children with disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Apply clear practice and procedure in day-to-day execution of job.
• Organize self and manage time to get things done.
• Keep manager informed of important issues.
• Build effective relationships within workgroup and with children/families.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Assist classroom staff in all classroom activities.
• Assist the Teacher in any aspect of the program as needed.
• Serve as a temporary substitute in the periodic absence of the Assistant Teacher or Teacher.
• Provide custodial support as needed (sweeping, mopping, etc.).
• May serve as custodian in the absence of the regular custodian on a periodic basis.
• Complete routine kitchen/dining room duties and food preparation tasks.
• Participate in food service clean up, inventory and related tasks.
• Substitute for Cook or Assistant Cook as needed.
• Adhere to hygiene and sanitation standards.
