Job summary

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Certification as applicable by Head Start or child care regulations, now or as amended.
• Within 90 days of employment, obtain basic first aid and pediatric CPR certification.
• Demonstrated knowledge of working with infants, toddlers and preschool children.
• Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Ability to relate sensitively with children and communicate with staff, parents and families.
• Follow directions and take initiative.
• Maintain confidentiality of information about families.

Responsibilities

• Apply clear practices and procedures in day-to-day work.
• Organize time and stay self-motivated to complete tasks.
• Keep supervisor informed of important issues.
• Build effective relationships with children, families, and team members.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Assist classroom staff in activities and with program needs.
• Serve as temporary substitute for teachers when needed.
• Perform custodial tasks and housekeeping as required.
• Assist in kitchen/dining tasks and food service duties.
• Attend required trainings, staff and parent meetings, and follow Head Start standards.
