Job summary

Save the Children is seeking Program Aides On-Call to provide educational, relational, and social experiences for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers across program sites and possibly home visits. The role reports to the Education and Inclusion Manager or Center Director and may involve travel.

As frontline representatives, aides ensure child safety, adhere to agency values, and support daily classroom operations, bus routes, and meal service as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Minimum high school diploma or GED.
• Certification as applicable by federal, state or local Head Start or childcare regulations.
• Within 90 days of employment, obtain and maintain basic first aid and pediatric CPR.
• Demonstrated knowledge of basics of working with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
• Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Ability to relate sensitively with children and communicate with staff, parents and families.
• Proven ability to follow directions and take initiative.
• Demonstrated ability to keep all information on families confidential.
• Demonstrated ability to work with children with disabilities.
• Physical requirements: up to 50 lbs occasionally and up to 20 lbs frequently.
• Background check requirements and post-offer health requirements.
• Must operate a motor vehicle per job needs.
• Head Start parent preference may apply.

Responsibilities

• Apply clear practice and procedures in daily tasks.
• Organize self and manage time to complete duties.
• Keep supervisor informed of important issues.
• Build relationships with children, families, and teammates.
• Follow oral and written instructions.
• Assist classroom staff in all activities as needed.
• Serve as temporary substitute in absence of teachers.
• Provide custodial support and kitchen/dining tasks as assigned.
• Attend workshops, meetings, and parent activities.
• Understand Head Start Program Performance Standards and local licensing regulations.
