Job summary

NAYA Family Center is seeking a dependable Kitchen Assistant to join our Kitchen team on an on-call basis. You will support daily meal preparation and service for Native youth, Elders, staff, and community, helping with traditional dishes and events. This on-site role emphasizes kitchen safety and sanitation, proper food storage, and teamwork with the Kitchen Manager.

Availability is generally 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends; compensation is $22–$25 per hour,

Qualifications

• At least six months of experience in food service.
• Current Food Handler’s Certification.
• Able to follow oral and written instructions and sanitation procedures.
• Effective communication and respectful interaction with diverse groups.
• Strong listening and interpersonal skills; team player.
• Knowledge of Native American history; understanding urban AI/AN communities.
• Experience with diverse populations preferred.
• Some high school education preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the Kitchen Manager with daily meal preparation, presentation, and service for students, Elders, staff, and community members.
• Prepare food according to proper storage, handling, and cooking procedures for large quantities.
• Assist with traditional Native American dishes and cuisine.
• Support food service for large events, meetings, trainings, and other NAYA activities.
• Maintain a clean, organized, sanitary kitchen and proper equipment care.
