This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 10.
You’ll support the Reemployment Benefits team by helping keep correspondence and electronic case records organized and up to date. Much of your day will involve reviewing incoming documents, entering information into our case management system, preparing routine letters, and updating tracking tools using established procedures and templates. You’ll also help answer routine questions from injured workers and other customers and connect them with the right staff member when needed. As you become familiar with the program, you’ll work alongside experienced staff and build useful skills in case processing, records management, and public service.
The Division of Workers' Compensation serves injured workers, employers, insurers, and other parties by administering Alaska's workers' compensation system accurately, fairly, and efficiently. The Reemployment Benefits team helps injured workers remain at work or return to work, and this position is essential to keeping those cases organized, accurate, and on schedule. This is more than a traditional clerical position: you will learn how a specialized public program works from the inside and see how your work directly affects the progress of real cases. You will work alongside experienced reemployment and workers' compensation staff and build transferable skills in case processing, records management, regulatory procedures, customer service, and electronic case systems. The work is varied, detail-oriented, and meaningful, with a clear connection between accurate work and timely service to injured workers and employers. The position provides a strong foundation for continued growth within Workers' Compensation and other State administrative programs. This position is located in Anchorage in the Division of Workers' Compensation office and works closely with the Reemployment Benefits team and other Division staff. The daily environment is busy, collaborative, and primarily office-based, with frequent computer, telephone, mail, and public contact; onsite presence is required for reception and document/mail processing coverage.
Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).
"High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.
