Job summary

The Office Assistant 2 role with the State of Alaska’s Division of Workers’ Compensation is based in Juneau and performs front-desk duties, mail processing, and clerical tasks using Microsoft Office and the division’s case management system. ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS!

The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Workers Compensation, is recruiting for an Office Assistant 2 located in Juneau! No Cover Letter Required!

This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 10.

What You Will Be Doing:

This position serves as the first point of contact for the Division's Juneau office and helps ensure the public receives prompt, professional assistance.

  • You will greet visitors, answer and route telephone calls, monitor the Division's shared email account, and direct questions and documents to the appropriate staff.
  • You will receive, date-stamp, scan, distribute, and maintain incoming mail and filings; assist with outgoing mail and routine office records; and provide general clerical support using Microsoft Office and the Division's case management system.
  • The position offers a good introduction to workers' compensation and state service, with training provided on procedures and systems.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This position is located in the Division's Juneau office and works on site at the reception desk during regular business hours. The work is performed in a professional office environment with frequent contact by email, telephone, mail, and in person, along with regular computer‑based clerical work; travel is not required.

High school diploma or the equivalent. AND One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

Substitution: Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).

Special Note: "High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.

Some position in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement.
