Job summary

The Fund for Public Health in New York City is seeking a New York Abortion Access Hub Navigator to provide referrals and information on abortion services across New York State. The role conducts brief interviews, assesses needs, and makes warm handoffs to providers, with emphasis on empathy, privacy, and data integrity.

This hybrid position in New York City requires strong health-related background, exceptional communication, and comfort working with diverse communities.

Qualifications

• Health-related professional experience or public health training.
• Ability to demonstrate a professional, positive attitude and work ethic.
• Understand concepts of institutional racism and bias and their impact on underserved communities.
• Excellent interpersonal skills interacting with diverse populations during crisis.
• Commitment to supporting communities affected by oppression.
• Empathy and nonjudgmental approach to distressed individuals.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Critical thinking and sound judgment.
• Experience navigating computer systems and data privacy.
• Ability to speak, read, and write English.
• Strong preference for Spanish-speaking proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Respond to telephone calls and online chats with scripted interviews to assess needs.
• Assess funding and support requirements for access to care.
• Provide warm handoff to appropriate providers based on needs.
• Reinforce that abortion is safe, legal, and available in New York.
• Connect callers to care providers and resources using approved lists.
• Communicate professionally and empathetically.
• Record information in the data system.
• Follow approved scripts and protocols.
• Maintain daily communication with supervisor.
• Obtain telephone consent for referrals to other organizations.
• Protect privacy and confidentiality; perform other duties as assigned.
