Job summary

MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center is seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing to join the nursing leadership team. You will support the Director of Nursing, oversee unit-based nursing and support staff, and ensure holistic, evidence-based, patient-centered care across the continuum.

The role emphasizes collaboration with physicians and departments, performance management, budget oversight, and adherence to regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited program required.
• Master's degree in Nursing or a health-related field preferred.
• 1-2 years of progressive nursing care experience required; leadership experience preferred.
• RN licensure in Maryland required; CPR certification within 90 days; specialty certifications may vary.

Responsibilities

• Develop unit goals, policies and procedures in collaboration with the Director of Nursing.
• Lead relationships across disciplines to ensure efficient, quality patient care and throughput.
• Conduct annual performance reviews and manage staff performance and development.
• Manage unit budget, staffing, supplies, and equipment for safe patient care delivery.
• Lead safety initiatives, patient safety events, and quality metrics improvements.
