Job summary

MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center is seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing to lead and coordinate patient care on a unit/department level. The role provides 24/7 administrative oversight in collaboration with the Director of Nursing to ensure quality, safety, and cost-effective evidence-based nursing care.

The position requires a DC RN license, 1–2 years of leadership experience, and a Master’s degree or higher in nursing or related field is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited program required.
• Master's degree in Nursing or a health-related field preferred.
• 1–2 years of progressive nursing care experience with leadership/management preferred.
• RN license in DC required; CPR certification required; EFM certification for perinatal area within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Develops unit/department goals, policies and procedures in collaboration with Nursing leadership.
• Oversees patient care delivery and coordinates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure quality outcomes.
• Conducts annual performance reviews and ensures staff development and accountability.
• Manages unit/department budget, staffing, and resource needs; ensures regulatory compliance.
