Job summary

State of Colorado is seeking a Nurse III (Nurse Supervisor) to lead professional nursing care for incarcerated inmates across outpatient clinics, infirmaries, and specialized units. The role demands shift work, potential on-call duties, and a focus on safety and quality care.

You will supervise staff, coordinate staffing, and ensure accurate medical records while delivering patient education and compassionate care in a security-conscious environment.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current RN license (Colorado Board or eNLC).
• Minimum of three (3) years of professional nursing experience related to the job.
• Substitutions: a bachelor’s degree may substitute for one year of experience; a master’s/doctorate may substitute for two years.

Responsibilities

• Documents inmate medical records accurately and timely.
• Provides patient education on self-care techniques and medications.
• Delivers nursing care tailored to inmates' diagnoses and needs.
• Performs routine and emergency assessments during triage and emergencies.
• Maintains safety and security of the clinical environment.
• Manages payroll, scheduling and Performance Management Plans; oversees 8–16 hour shifts; assigns staff and arranges coverage.
• Recommends, implements, and monitors policy compliance; acts as on-call supervisor and approves overtime.
