Job summary

Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph in Wichita, KS invites a Nurse/Patient Care Assistant to join the Labor and Delivery team for night shift PRN coverage.

You will deliver bedside care, monitor vitals, assist with daily activities, and support the care team with documentation and transport to diagnostics. Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or GED, enrollment in a nursing program within 90 days, and BLS certification or equivalent.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Must be accepted or enrolled in a nursing program within 90 days of hire.
• BLS Provider certification required or within 30 days of hire.
• Instructor specialization in BLS is acceptable as a credential.

Responsibilities

• Deliver primary bedside care and assist with activities of daily living.
• Observe and document patient progress and report to preceptors.
• Contribute to personalized care planning by reporting test results.
• Support unit operations and transport patients to diagnostics.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Deliver primary bedside care by taking vital signs and assisting patients with activities of daily living to maintain comfort, dignity and optimal recovery conditions.
• Observe and document patient progress in real time, communicating critical observations and status updates to preceptors to ensure continuous, safety-focused care delivery.
• Contribute to personalized care planning by reporting diagnostic test results and clinical observations directly to the care team.
• Support unit operational flow by preparing and safely transporting patients to diagnostic services, maintaining clean care environments and ensuring smooth daily workflows.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration

Required Credential(s)

One or more of the following:

• Instructor specializing in Basic Life Support obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Preferred Credential(s)

• Nurse Aide.

Education

• High school diploma/GED required. Must be accepted or enrolled into a Nursing program upon date of hire/transfer and begin classes within 90 days of date of hire/transfer.
