Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Nurse extern to support the RN in delivering safe, age-appropriate care and help with patient throughput. You will assist with ADLs, mobility, vitals, nutrition, and basic clinical tasks under supervision.

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program, provide proof of HS education, and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. Orientation and onboarding will follow prerequisites and policy requirements.

Qualifications

• Proof of HS education required.
• Must be actively enrolled in an accredited nursing program with GPA 2.5+.
• Maintain good academic standing and required coursework.
• Completion of foundational nursing coursework prior to supervised practice.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with daily living activities while maintaining dignity and safety.
• Support mobility, transfers, and use of assistive devices under RN direction.
• Record routine vitals and intake/output; report abnormalities to RN.
• Support nutrition and hydration per prescribed diets; monitor tolerance.
• Maintain clean, safe patient environments in line with infection control.
• Communicate changes in patient condition promptly to the RN.
• Assist in preparation for tests or procedures as directed by RN.
• Provide clerical support and basic EMR data entry; manage unit supplies.
