Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Nurse Extern in Illinois to support RN-led patient care. You will assist with ADLs, mobility, vital signs, and documentation while under direct RN supervision.

You will participate in nutrition, safety, and unit flow activities to enhance patient throughput and experience. Applicants must be in an accredited nursing program with a minimum 2.5 GPA and have completed foundational nursing coursework.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Actively enrolled in an accredited nursing program and in good standing.
• Maintain a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
• Complete foundational nursing coursework and prerequisites.

Responsibilities

• Supports patients with ADLs such as bathing, grooming, toileting, dressing, and personal care.
• Assists with mobility and transfers under RN direction.
• Records routine clinical measurements and reports abnormalities to the RN.
• Supports nutrition and hydration under RN guidance.
• Maintains infection control and a safe patient environment.
• Observes changes in patient condition and reports promptly to the RN.
• Assists in patient education and unit orientation as directed by RN.
• Performs clerical tasks and EMR data entry and unit communication.
• Manages supplies and maintains equipment cleanliness and readiness.
• Performs competency-validated skills (e.g., EKG, venipuncture) under RN supervision.
