Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer with a strong background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics to lead nuclear uprate projects in the Chicago area. This hybrid role offers office presence in downtown Chicago three days a week and remote work two days a week.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in the nuclear power industry, familiarity with uprates and turbine retrofits, and proven ability to prepare detailed calculations and reports for client reviews.

Qualifications

• B.S.M.E. from an ABET-accredited program with strong background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
• 10+ years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear power uprates and/or turbine retrofit projects.
• Knowledge of balance of plant systems, pinch points, heat balance, power train pumps, heat exchangers, and circulating water/ultimate heat sinks.
• Excellent technical report writing and ability to prepare calculations and reports.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead licensing basis system and component evaluations for nuclear uprate projects.
• Apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics to power plant engineering tasks.
• Perform consulting level work for uprates in the nuclear industry.
• Prepare calculations and reports to support client recommendations and reviews.
• Lead and mentor junior engineers on power plant engineering tasks.
• Interface with clients and project teams to present technical discussions and status.
• Develop engineering proposals and cost estimates.
• Attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope and client satisfaction.
