Job summary

X Energy LLC in Rockville, MD, seeks an experienced mechanical engineer to design and develop mechanical systems, structures, and components for nuclear products. You will evaluate, prototype, test, and commission systems, with emphasis on safety and compliance with design criteria.

The role involves coordinating with engineers, suppliers, and project leads to ensure manufacturability and integration of SSCs, supporting documentation, and V&V planning. A strong CAD/PLM background is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution.
• Proficiency with engineering hand calculations is required.
• Experience and/or knowledge in CAD and PLM software.
• Hardware ownership including manufacturing and testing oversight.
• 1+ years hands-on experience delivering hardware in production contexts.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical/physical concepts and support development of SSCs for nuclear products with a focus on safety.
• Coordinate requirements, interfaces, and design criteria with stakeholders and systems engineers.
• Plan and perform analyses to ensure SSCs meet design requirements.
• Perform hand calculations and analyses for structural, thermal, hydraulic aspects.
• Create and maintain CAD models of reactor SSCs and integrate design activities across teams.
• Develop innovative mechanical solutions for X-energy reactor designs including pressure vessels and piping.
