Job summary

X Energy LLC, located in Gaithersburg, MD, seeks a Heat Exchanger Design Engineer to develop mechanical systems and reactor SSCs, from concept through production. You will perform structural, thermal, and hydraulic analyses, create CAD models, and coordinate with engineers and suppliers to ensure safety and compliance.

The role requires extensive hands-on engineering, technical leadership, and the ability to write design basis and verification plans while mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field required.
• Typically 15 years of engineering experience; advanced degrees may substitute.
• Proficiency with engineering hand calculations is required.
• Experience using CAD/PLM tools such as UG/NX, SolidWorks, Pro/Engineer, Teamcenter, or Windchill.
• Hands-on production experience preferred (internships, projects, or industry).

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical/physical concepts for SSCs used in nuclear products.
• Perform analyses to ensure SSCs meet design specs and safety requirements.
• Create and maintain CAD models of reactor SSCs and document design basis.
• Prepare design documentation, calculations, and technical drawings per procedures.
• Lead verification, validation plans and independent design reviews.
