Job summary

Terrestrial Energy Inc. seeks a Mechanical Engineer/Analyst – Model Development to support IMSR reactor systems design and materials analysis during the Detailed Engineering phase. You will build models predicting material behavior under IMSR conditions and work under the Mechanical Engineering Manager.

You will develop custom engineering models, perform literature reviews, collaborate with R&D, and prepare calculations and reports for reactor components, including interfaces with regulators.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of work experience in mechanical and materials modelling and analysis (relevant graduate studies and academic research can be considered)
  • Strong theoretical understanding of mechanics of materials and materials science fundamentals
  • Experience with ANSYS Mechanical or other commercial FEA software (ANSYS Mechanical APDL preferred)
  • Experience with programming (Python, C, Fortran, or similar) for data pre/post processing or automation of simulations
  • Knowledge of fatigue, creep, dynamic and static analyses (linear and non-linear)
  • Willingness to adapt and learn new approaches and areas of expertise
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with teams on challenging problems

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement custom engineering models for predicting behavior and integrity of reactor materials, components and systems under IMSR conditions
  • Conduct literature and operating experience reviews to support design and model development
  • Collaborate with R&D to translate experimental results into models and plan new experiments
  • Prepare models, calculations and reports for analysis of reactor components (such as graphite cores, core support structures, reactor vessel) including irradiation, fatigue and creep effects
  • Develop computer codes for building custom analysis tools and automating input/output processing
  • Attend conferences and stay current with codes, standards and industry practices
  • Interface with external experts and regulatory agencies
