Job summary

Terrestrial Energy, a US developer of advanced reactors, seeks a Mechanical Engineer/Analyst – Model Development to join our Charlotte team. You will design and analyze IMSR reactor systems, developing custom engineering models for materials and components to predict behavior over life under reactor conditions.

The role requires 4+ years in mechanical/materials modelling, strong solid mechanics knowledge, and experience with ANSYS Mechanical.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of work experience in mechanical and materials modelling and analysis.
  • Strong theoretical understanding of mechanics of materials and material science fundamentals.
  • Experience with ANSYS Mechanical or other commercial FEA software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement custom engineering models predicting behavior and integrity of reactor materials and components.
  • Conduct literature and OPEX reviews to support model development.
  • Collaborate with R&D to translate results into models and plan new experiments.
  • Prepare models, calculations and reports for analysis of reactor components (graphite core, reactor vessel, etc.).
  • Develop codes for building custom analysis tools and automating data processing.
  • Attend conferences to stay current with codes, standards and best practices.
  • Interface with external experts and regulatory agencies.
