Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Chicago, IL seeks an Electrical Engineer 1 to design and modernize electrical systems for nuclear plants, including SMRs and life-extension projects. You will gain hands-on experience, engage with senior engineers, and contribute to safety‑critical designs on challenging, high‑impact projects.

You will use industry tools like ETAP, collaborate across disciplines, and grow toward licensure as a PE.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with strong power concepts/power systems knowledge.
• Understanding practical application of electrical engineering to project design.
• Knowledge of design techniques for producing technical plans, drawings, and models.
• Proficiency with MS Office; excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Assist in engineering calculations and design tasks for large nuclear plants, including protection studies, cable sizing, and LV/MV system design.
• Utilize ETAP to perform power systems analysis and modeling for complex networks.
• Assist with selection and integration of major electrical power equipment (switchgear, MCCs, transformers, breakers, relays).
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and interface with client stakeholders such as Operations and Systems Engineering.
• Translate concepts into detailed drawings with designers and drafters; support project deliverables.
