Job summary

Safeway is seeking a Person In Charge (PIC) to lead store operations in the absence of the Store Manager and assistants. The role includes supervising employees, handling cash and customer service, and ensuring efficient store performance.

Responsibilities include directing daily tasks, maintaining policy adherence, and supporting departments across the store. This position requires strong communication, independent work, and a customer-first mindset.

Qualifications

• Must follow company customer service procedures.
• Ability to interact with customers and co-workers.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions.
• Knowledge of all positions within the store.
• Ability to work independently.
• Prior experience as a clerk or manager is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service per policy and store standards.
• Handle emergencies, customer complaints, and supervise staff.
• Maintain familiarity with store policies and procedures.
• Supervise the sales floor and monitor service and replenishment of products.
• Replenish displays and stock around the checkout area.
• Assist in keeping a clean and safe work environment.
• Help other cashiers with register and scanner issues.
• Perform basic office tasks to assist customers and personnel.
• Operate the cash register and handle payments and change.
• Bag groceries and assist with carry-out as needed.
• May close out the day and count tills.
• Other duties as assigned.
