Job summary

MercyOne Elkader Medical Center is hiring a Registered Nurse for the 12 hour night shift at its small-town, 25-bed critical access hospital in Elkader, IA. The RN will provide safe and compassionate care for acute medical and surgical patients, coordinate with the care team, and assist with discharge planning and education.

The role requires an associate degree in nursing (BSN preferred), Iowa RN license, BLS, and ACLS if telemetry is used.

Qualifications

Associate degree in nursing required.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Current Iowa RN license.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
ACLS required only if the unit has telemetry monitoring capabilities.
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
High language, intermediate to high math, high critical thinking ability.
Basic computer skills required.

Responsibilities

Provide and direct safe, effective nursing care for patients with acute medical and surgical conditions.
Coordinate care with physicians, patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
Perform initial assessments and develop outcome-based care plans.
Identify patient problems and establish goals, with appropriate referrals.
Implement and monitor plans of care, including medications and nursing orders.
Coordinate discharge planning and education with care providers.
Maintain thorough documentation and communication during shifts.
