Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Pharmaceutical Care, is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician, either certified or trainee, to support the Acute Care Central Pharmacy. The role operates under general pharmacist supervision, handling dispensing-related tasks and staff training.

Shifts are 8 hours long, from 9:00 pm to 6:30 am, Sunday-Thursday. Applicants must be registered with the Iowa Board and may be hired as Trainee or Certified Technician based on qualifications; resume

Qualifications

• Registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy at time of hire.
• National certification through PTCB or NHA with ongoing CE.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years post-high school science experience or completion of an accredited technician program.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and inventory medications in satellites and dispensing areas.
• Review inventory for expired medications and adjust par levels.
• Prepare labels and medications using Epic In-Baskets and automated systems.
• Deliver and return medications to patient care areas.
• Ensure medication security and proper storage.
• Maintain controlled substances records and security.
• Document distribution records and QA for sterile compounding.
• Assist with training of pharmacy students and technicians.
• Handle narcotics inventories and OmnicellXT restocking.
• Assist pharmacist with unit inspections.
