Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Pharmaceutical Care is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician, certified or trainee to work in our Acute Care, IV Ads Pharmacy. This position is under general pharmacist supervision and supports dispensing activities with a focus on accuracy and compliance.

Responsibilities include inventory management, dispensing, nursing unit deliveries, sterile compounding, and training of new technicians.

Qualifications

• Registered with the Pharmacy Board at the time of hire.
• National certification through PTCB or NHA required for certified technicians; must meet CE requirements.
• High school diploma or the equivalent.
• Two years post-high school science experience or completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program.

Responsibilities

• Perform inventory maintenance in satellites and dispensing areas.
• Review inventory for expired medications.
• Manage inpatient Epic In-Baskets: print labels, determine quantities, prepare medications, label and discharge documentation.
• Deliver medications to patient care areas and return unneeded medications.
• Maintain security and proper storage of controlled substances.
• Operate sterile compounding equipment and maintain clean room standards.
• Assist with on-the-job training of students and junior technicians.
