Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Pharmaceutical Care, seeks a full-time Pharmacy Technician, certified or trainee, to work in Acute Care, Central Pharmacy on 9:00 pm–6:30 am overnights Sunday-Thursday. The role operates under pharmacist supervision and supports dispensing activities, inventory, and training.

Candidates must meet Iowa Board registration requirements, one of PTCB/NHA certifications, and complete a qualifying training program. Resume required for interview.

Qualifications

• Registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy at hire time.
• PTCB or NHA national certification; ongoing education required.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience or completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program.

Responsibilities

• Perform inventory maintenance in satellites and dispensing areas.
• Review inventory for expired medications and maintain par levels.
• Prepare and label medications, print discharge lists, and manage inpatient Baskets.
• Deliver and return medications to patient care areas; ensure security.
• Maintain controlled substances records and secure storage.
• Operate OmnicellXT Medstations, Med Carousel, and related equipment.
• Assist with on-the-job training and supervise student technicians.
• Adhere to aseptic technique and sterile compounding procedures.
