Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Pharmaceutical Care, seeks a part-time (50%) Pharmacy Technician, certified or trainee, to work in our Acute Care, Central Pharmacy under general pharmacist supervision. Key duties include maintaining inventories, reviewing expiries, preparing and delivering medications, and ensuring secure storage and accurate dispensing.

The role may involve training others and collaborating with nurses and pharmacists in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Qualifications

• Registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy at time of hire.
• National certification through PTCB or NHA; ongoing education requirements.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of post-high school science experience or completion of an accredited tech program.

Responsibilities

• Maintain inventory in satellites and dispensing areas; manage expired meds.
• Review inventory and ensure par levels; track and label medications.
• Process inpatient Epic In-Baskets; print labels and prepare doses.
• Deliver meds to patient care areas; manage returns and security.
• Maintain medication security and proper storage, including controlled substances.
• Generate and maintain records for medication distribution (Forms 127P, 131).
• Utilize OmnicellXT Medstations, MedCarousel, MTS-350 and related equipment.
• Assist with on-the-job training of technicians; provide supervision when needed.
