Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Pharmaceutical Care, is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician, certified or trainee, in Acute Care and IV Ad Pharmacy. Under pharmacist supervision, you will perform dispensing-related activities, support development and training, and may supervise staff as needed.

Hours include 6:30 am–4:00 pm with every other weekend. Position may be filled as Pharmacy Technician, Trainee or Certified, based on qualifications.

Qualifications

• Experience with inventory maintenance activities.
• Experience working in a team environment.
• Experience working in detail-oriented work environment.
• Knowledge of Windows-based computer programs.
• Experience working in healthcare with one-on-one patient interaction and handling challenging interactions.

Responsibilities

• Perform inventory maintenance in satellites and dispensing areas, including emergency drug supplies.
• Review medication inventory for expired medications and maintain par levels.
• Manage inpatient Epic In-Baskets: printing labels, calculating quantities, preparing and packaging medications, and documentation.
• Deliver medications to patient care areas and return unused medications.
• Ensure medication security in patient care unit rooms and maintain control of substances.
• Maintain records related to medication distribution and dispensing (forms 127P, 131).
• Operate laminar flow hoods, label printers, packaging and compounding equipment, and automated dispensing systems.
• Prepare sterile products with aseptic technique and maintain clean room standards.
• Conduct monthly inspections of patient care areas and assist with training of students and new technicians.
• Perform narcotics inventories and manage stock; restock Omnicell Medstations as required.
