Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Pharmaceutical Care, is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician, certified or trainee, to work in Acute Care, IV Ads Pharmacy. This position operates under pharmacist supervision and supports dispensing activities, inventory management, and training of staff.

AM hours 6:30 am–4:00 pm with every other weekend. Responsibilities include inventory maintenance, medication preparation, labeling, documentation, and ensuring security of medications,

Qualifications

• Minimum eligibility for certified technician: Registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy at hire.
• National certification through PTCB or NHA; must meet ongoing education requirements and maintain certification.
• Minimum eligibility for trainee technician: Registered with the Pharmacy Board at hire; must certify within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Perform inventory maintenance in satellites and dispensing areas.
• Review inventory for expired medications.
• Maintain medication inventory levels according to par levels when available.
• Handle inpatient Epic In-Baskets including labeling, dosing and documentation.
• Deliver medications to patient care areas and return unused meds.
• Ensure medication security in patient care units and proper storage of controlled substances.
• Maintain records for medication distribution and dispensing (forms 127P, 131).
• Operate Omnicell XT, MedCarousel and other automated dispensing equipment.
