Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Safety Observer to provide continuous safety monitoring in the ED. The role supports nursing in daily patient care, with duties including ambulation, feeding, and repositioning as directed.

You will work in a 24-hour ED environment, with a night shift and safeguards to ensure patient dignity and safety. Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent and CPR certification within 6 months of hire.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• CPR Certification within 6 months of hire is required or you must obtain it after hire.
• Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred unless not required by certification or licensure; substitution by education/experience may be used.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous safety observation of assigned patients.
• Help patients with activities of daily living as directed by nursing staff.
• Engage with patients using appropriate interaction while maintaining safety.
• Document all care and communications in the chart via the designated staff member.
• Report any issues/concerns immediately to the licensed clinical charge person.
• Develop and maintain good human relations with patients and families.
• Monitor for suicidal or violent behavior and maintain patient in visual contact.
• Assist with transporting patients as directed by licensed staff.
• May be assigned to multiple patients as needed by staff in charge.
• Follow orders of the nurse in charge and perform ancillary tasks as directed.
