Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Safety Observer for the Emergency Room in central Massachusetts. This night-shift, on-site role supports patient safety and comfort, assists with daily living activities, and communicates with licensed staff.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and CPR certification within 6 months of hire. Healthcare experience is preferred; signing bonus may be available during interview process.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• CPR certification within 6 months of hire.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous safety observation of patients and monitor for safety and comfort.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living as directed by nursing.
• Engage with patients using conversation, sensory box, cards or games as appropriate.
• Document all care and report issues immediately to the licensed staff.
• Follow the directions of the nurse in charge and assist with patient transport when needed.
• Maintain patient dignity and advocate for the patient at all times.
• Monitor visitors to prevent unsafe materials from being shared with patients.
• Maintain 15-minute checks with documentation unless directed otherwise.
• Be capable of float to other areas as assigned by the nursing supervisor.
• Support the care team and perform ancillary duties as directed.
