Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is hiring for an ED caregiver role. The position is non-exempt with a night shift (2300-0730) and 32 hours weekly. Responsibilities include constant observation of high-risk patients, de-escalation, and assisting with daily patient care in a fast-paced ED environment.

Holidays and every-other-holiday weekends apply. A signing bonus may be available; final offers depend on experience and internal equity assessments.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or equivalent required.
• Must complete de-escalation training and obtain BLS/Heartsaver certification.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to stay calm in emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Provide constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned.
• Assist patients with undressing and securing belongings.
• Conduct 15-minute safety checks and monitor patient activity.
• Escort and supervise patients in bathrooms under RN direction; assist with meals and comfort.
• Use de-escalation techniques and participate in restraints when necessary.
• Obtain handoff reports at shift start and monitor for safety concerns.
• Report unsafe behaviors or environmental hazards to the nurse.
• Maintain clean, organized work area and stock supplies.
• Complete light clerical duties and communication tasks as assigned.
