Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist for the Night Shift (7pm–7am) to serve as a liaison between patients, payers, and care teams. You will gather demographic information, verify insurance, and collect out-of-pocket responsibilities to maximize hospital reimbursement.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting, preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience, strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors, required.
• Fluency in English; English & Spanish required in El Paso market.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all regulations applicable to Admissions and Medical Records handling.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships with customers.
• Assist in patient identification and triage upon hospital arrival.
• Answer calls professionally, record messages and relay to medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on forms and consents.
• Enter complete demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits and correct payor and plan entry.
• Obtain required insurance authorizations.
• Assist with collections at time of service in a customer-friendly manner.
• Scan and maintain medical records.
• Coordinate transfers to other hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer and logs.
• Maintain visitor/vendor log.
