Job summary

The Iowa Department of Transportation is seeking a hands-on team leader for the 3rd shift Highway Technician Senior. You will guide a dedicated crew, drive safety-focused operations, and lead with core values to improve highway safety and project delivery.

The role requires CDL permits, compliance with DOT rules, and readiness for night work on a Sunday–Friday schedule with a $1 shift differential. IPERs and benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• CDL permit upon hire.
• Class A CDL with endorsements within 5 months following hire date.
• Pre-employment drug screen and ongoing random drug testing.
• U.S. DOT Clearinghouse query is required.
• Post offer, pre-employment physical is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate team activities with supervision.
• Respond to emergencies such as accidents or urgent repairs.
• Coordinate snow operations and operate snow equipment.
• Use technology and software to manage daily office tasks.
• Host daily operations meetings and monthly safety huddles.
• Assist with traffic control maintenance and CDL training.
