Job summary

The Iowa Department of Transportation is seeking a Highway Technician Senior (HTS) to lead a field crew in Williamsburg, guiding safety and performance while collaborating with supervisors to plan and execute maintenance and repairs in the area.

This on-site role runs 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, with potential on-call during emergencies and occasional overnight travel. Residency within 45 minutes of the work location is required, and there are growth opportunities and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED with four years of highway maintenance/related experience.
• Education equivalence: 30 semester hours equals one year of experience.
• Current continuous state executive-branch experience as HTS or Construction Technician.
• CDL permit required at hire; must obtain CDL with endorsements within 5 months.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and lead team success with supervision.
• Respond to emergencies such as accidents or urgent repairs.
• Coordinate and manage snow operations and snow equipment.
• Use technology to manage daily office tasks and workflows.
• Host daily operational meetings and monthly safety huddles.
• Assist with traffic control maintenance activities.
• Support internal CDL training initiatives.
