Job summary

State-of-Iow is seeking a Highway Technician Senior to lead a maintenance crew, coordinate field operations, and respond to emergencies across Iowa roadways. The role involves supervising daily work, hosting safety meetings, and ensuring safety and efficiency during snow operations and traffic control tasks.

CDL readiness and residency requirements apply. The position emphasizes hands-on leadership, operational planning, and collaboration with supervisors to deliver high-impact transportation

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalency with four years of full-time highway maintenance/related experience.
• CDL permit or license required; CDL with endorsements/restrictions to be obtained within 5 months of hire date.
• Post‑offer pre-employment physical, DOT screening, and ongoing drug/alcohol testing required.
• May require pesticide/herbicide certifications or other operator certifications as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate team activities with supervisor to drive success.
• Respond to emergencies such as accidents or urgent repairs.
• Coordinate snow operations and operate snow equipment.
• Use technology/software to manage daily office tasks and workflows.
• Host daily operational meetings and monthly safety huddles.
• Assist with traffic control maintenance and support CDL training efforts.
