Job summary

The Iowa Department of Transportation is seeking a 3rd shift Highway Technician Associate to support roadside maintenance and safety operations. You will contribute to keeping Iowa roadways safe, perform routine vehicle maintenance, and obey safety and DOT guidelines.

Expect a Sunday–Friday 10:00 PM–6:30 AM schedule with a $1 shift differential. Residency within 45 minutes is required within five months, with strong benefits and opportunities for growth within the department.

Qualifications

• CDL permit upon hire.
• Class A endorsements within 5 months.
• Entry-level driver training provided upon hire.
• Successful U.S. DOT Clearinghouse query.
• Pre-employment physical and ongoing drug/alcohol testing.
• May require pesticide/herbicide certifications.

Responsibilities

• Patching roadway and repairing guardrails, signs, fences, lighting, culverts and waterways.
• Participating in traffic control for maintenance activities.
• Picking up and disposing of litter and debris.
• Operating snow equipment to remove snow, ice and frost from roadways.
• Mowing, brush control and vegetation management; spraying.
• Performing routine maintenance of DOT equipment and vehicles.
