Job summary

The Iowa Department of Transportation seeks a 3rd shift Highway Technician Associate to support roadside operations across Iowa. This role emphasizes safety, hands-on maintenance, and daily impact for Iowans, with a schedule that runs Sunday through Friday, 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM.

Starting wage is $24.48 per hour plus a $1.00 shift differential, with benefits and opportunities for growth as you help patch roadways, repair guardrails, and maintain equipment while meeting state requirements.

Qualifications

• CDL permit required upon hire.
• Class A license and endorsements within 5 months.
• Pre-employment physical and drug screen.
• DOT Clearinghouse check and on-going random drug/alcohol testing.
• Residency within 45 minutes of Coralville within five months.

Responsibilities

• Patching roadway.
• Repairing and maintaining guardrails, signs, fences, lighting, culverts, and waterways.
• Participating in traffic control for maintenance activities.
• Picking up and disposing of litter and debris.
• Operating snow equipment to remove snow, ice, and frost from roadways.
• Mowing, cutting brush, weed, and vegetation control, and spraying.
• Performing routine maintenance and servicing DOT equipment and vehicles.
