Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician to assist nursing staff with continuous observation and basic patient care during night shifts. Under RN supervision, you will support safety, ADLs, hygiene, nutrition, and communication with the care team.

The role requires a high school diploma, good communication, infection control knowledge, and completion of a department training within 90 days of hire. On-site, part-time position with weekend coverage.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required.
• Able to communicate with staff and patients appropriately.
• Infection prevention including hand hygiene and standard precautions.
• Respect for patient rights and confidentiality.
• Basic computer operation skills.
• Complete behavioral health education/training within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Patient safety: continuously observe patients and report changes to nursing staff.
• Provide activity and comfort support, assist with bed handling and transfers.
• Assist with hygiene activities for patients.
• Assist with nutrition and hydration as ordered.
• Assist with elimination needs and use of bedside devices.
• Use equipment safely and appropriately.
• Follow infection prevention protocols and isolation precautions.
• Document care, safety precautions, and observations in the chart.
• Communicate with the RN and interdisciplinary team; maintain confidentiality.
• Complete department core competencies and participate in meetings.
