Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West in Michigan is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician for the Post-Surgical Unit on the Evening shift. This part-time role (0.3 FTE) supports nursing staff with continuous observation, patient safety, and activities of daily living under RN supervision.

Responsibilities include patient hygiene, nutrition support, mobility assistance, infection prevention, and accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required.
• Ability to communicate appropriately to staff and patients.
• Knowledgeable of infection prevention including hand hygiene and standard precautions.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and respect for patient rights and confidentiality.
• Basic computer operation skills.
• Completion of behavioral health education/training within 90 days of hire

Responsibilities

• Patient Safety: Continuously observe patients and report changes to nursing staff.
• Activity and Comfort: Assist with bed making, turning and positioning of patients.
• Hygiene: Assist with hygiene activities and basic patient baths.
• Nutrition: Assist with trays and fluids; notify RN if eating is problematic.
• Elimination: Assist with urinals/bedpans and document output.
• Equipment: Use equipment safely and properly.
• Infection Prevention: Adhere to hand hygiene and standard precautions.
• Documentation: Record care provided and observations as directed by RN.
• Communication: Relay observations to RN and maintain patient confidentiality.
• Orientation: Complete department core competencies as required.
• Miscellaneous: Engage with patients and support a clean, safe environment.
