Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Observation Unit on the Nights shift. This 0.3 FTE position supports RN staff by providing basic nursing care and performing routine tasks to keep the unit running smoothly.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, BLS/CPR certification, and either a CENA credential or enrollment in a health science program (or equivalent experience such as MA/EMT).

Qualifications

• Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current Certified Nurse Aide (CENA) certification, or enrollment in a health science program with nursing fundamentals/clinical rotation preferred, or equivalent experience (MA/EMT/LPN).
• Basic understanding of Medical Terminology, Anatomy, Physiology and confidentiality preferred.
• Current BLS/CPR provider.
• Experience in acute or extended care is preferred.
• Must complete unit-specific core competencies as defined in orientation check-list.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living and provide comfort; bed making, turning, positioning, ambulation, transfers, ROM exercises.
• Assist with hygiene activities.
• Provide catheter care (exclusions apply); change dressings; ileostomy/colostomy care.
• Assist with postmortem care.
• Assist with nutrition by passing trays, feeding, and recording intake.
• Assist with elimination and manage input/output; empty drains as directed.
