Job summary

State of Connecticut DMHAS, Connecticut Mental Health Center in New Haven, CT, seeks a part-time Telephone Operator to manage a PBX/telephone system and serve as a receptionist. The role covers the third shift from 12:00am to 8:00am, with a 16-hour weekly schedule and potential weekend/shift differentials.

The operator will support central communications, transfer calls, assist visitors, and perform clerical duties as part of a caring public service team at CMHC.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of PBX telephone switchboards or electronic telephone systems.
• Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
• Clerical skills and ability to follow written and oral instructions with basic computer usage.

Responsibilities

• Serve as central answering point for incoming calls.
• Determine caller needs and transfer to appropriate extension.
• Answer inquiries and provide information about agency activities.
• Receive and announce visitors and direct them to destinations.
• Perform general clerical duties including mail processing and file distribution.
• May staff communications center and train relief operators.
