Job summary

Boston Medical Center is seeking a Switchboard Operator in the Communications department. The role handles telephone answering, paging, and telecommunication services using Meridian and Xtend systems, reporting to the Lead Operator and Director of Telecommunications.

The position requires high school or GED, about one year of related experience, and strong interpersonal skills. On-site schedule is Tuesday–Friday evenings with a 32-hour work week.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year of business or medical-related experience with heavy telephone usage.
• Customer service experience required.
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills; ability to speak clearly.

Responsibilities

• Answer, assist and direct a high volume of calls with clear, polite, and professional communication.
• Perform paging/answering services for staff and manage on-call schedules.
• Record messages, monitor systems, and maintain telephone logs.
• Assist with Interpreter Services and security dispatch during off-hours.
