Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a part-time ED Observation Assistant for the Worcester, MA campus. This 24-hour night shift role involves constant patient observation, safety checks every 15 minutes, and assisting with patient care and basic tasks within the Emergency Department.

Responsibilities include de-escalation, reporting changes to nurses, and maintaining a safe environment. A High School diploma with de-escalation training and BLS/Heartsaver certification is required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required; de-escalation training and BLS/Heartsaver certification required.
• Must communicate clearly in English and work well under stress.
• Ability to assist in restraining disturbed patients if needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide constant observation and safety checks for high-risk patients.
• Assist patients with undressing, securing belongings, and mobility.
• Monitor patient activity and perform 15-minute safety checks.
• De-escalate patients using therapeutic techniques as directed by staff.
• Document patient behavior every 15 minutes and handoff to the on-coming staff.
• Follow infection control and safety procedures; assist with light clerical duties.
