Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking an Observation Assistant for the 11pm-7am night shift. This role focuses on constant observation of high-risk patients, safety checks, and supportive care under RN supervision.

You will assist with patient positioning, de-escalation techniques, and environmental safety while documenting each shift and handing off to the on-coming team. A Basic Life Support certification is required.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication in English and strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm under stress or emergency situations.
• Ability to assist in the physical restraint of disturbed patients.

Responsibilities

• Provide constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned by the RN.
• Monitor patient safety checks and report changes to the RN.
• Assist patients with undressing, personal belongings, and basic needs under RN direction.
• Escort and supervise patients in bathrooms and assist with meals as needed.
• De-escalate patients using approved techniques and participate in restraints when directed.
• Document patient behavior and safety checks in the chart per policy.
• Prepare environment, remove hazards, and maintain clean patient areas.
• Support nursing staff with patient care tasks and light clerical duties.
