Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Structural Engineer in Minneapolis/St Paul to support project teams from concept through design completion. You will modify drawings, help develop structural components, and assist in field inspections for diverse facilities including power, healthcare, airports and government projects.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or related field from an accredited program (ABET preferred).
• Prior internship/related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge in standard structural engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically and demonstrate critical thinking.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office; basic structural software experience (RISA, AutoCAD, BIM).
• Strong attention to detail, teamwork, organization and problem-solving.
• EIT certification preferred; GPA 3.0+ preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in structural design of projects from concept to design completion.
• Modify and review production drawings for various facilities.
• Design structural components per project manager requirements.
• Apply fundamental structural engineering concepts.
• Collect and summarize project data for managers.
• Assist with CAD updates and drawing accuracy across software.
• Support client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
• Assist in field inspections and measurements for clients.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
