Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Structural Engineer to support licensed professionals on diverse projects across power, process, healthcare, airports, educational institutions, and government facilities. You will assist in design development, drafting, and field measurements, contributing to the full design-construction cycle.

The role requires a bachelor’s in structural engineering; a master’s in structural/civil engineering with emphasis is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or related field (ABET preferred).
• Master’s degree in Structural/Civil Engineering (Structural Emphasis) preferred (ABET).
• Internship/related consulting experience is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of structural engineering techniques, principles, and procedures.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in structural design from concept through design completion.
• Review production drawings for various facilities (power, healthcare, airports, etc.).
• Assist in designing structural components per project requirements.
• Apply fundamental structural engineering concepts and codes.
• Compile project data as required by project managers.
• Update drawings in CAD software and verify corrections.
• Help with client presentations and shop drawing reviews.
• Perform field inspections and calculations as needed.
