Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Minneapolis/St Paul is seeking an Assistant Structural Engineer to support design teams on a range of projects, including power, process, healthcare, and government facilities. You will assist with design, drawings, and field work under a licensed PE.

You will learn to apply structural engineering concepts, review drawings, and collaborate with project managers to meet budget and schedule while growing toward licensure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or related field; ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge in standard structural engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Basic CAD skills include structural analysis programs (RISA), AutoCAD and BIM (Revit, Tekla).
• Strong attention to detail, teamwork, organization and problem solving.
• Engineers in Training (EIT) certification preferred.
• GPA 3.0+ strongly preferred.
• Campus involvement or community involvement preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists in structural design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings for a variety of projects.
• Assists in designing structural components per project manager requirements.
• Applies basic knowledge of structural engineering concepts, codes, and procedures.
• Assists with researching and compiling project data as required by project managers.
• Assists with updating drawings in multiple CAD software under supervision.
• Assists with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
• Assists in performing field inspections, measurements or calculations for clients.
