Job summary

Blue Water Thinking is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Technician – Info/Sys to maintain and secure networked medical equipment at the Iowa City VA Medical Center. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, installations, cybersecurity collaboration, and software updates to support safe patient care.

Ideal candidates have strong networking knowledge, experience with Cerner EHR systems, and a commitment to high standards of patient safety.

Qualifications

• Two-year associate degree or higher in an applied science or equivalent military training.
• Minimum of three years hospital or healthcare experience in medical equipment maintenance.
• Advanced knowledge of computer virus protection software and information security tools.
• Experience interfacing and troubleshooting networked medical equipment including TCP/IP, VLANs, and networking concepts.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and ISO standards.
• Ability to read technical literature, schematics, and drawings.
• Experience with Cerner EHR systems and integration is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on networked medical equipment to ensure reliability.
• Diagnose and repair malfunctions in medical devices per manufacturer specs.
• Conduct incoming inspections of new equipment for safety and accuracy.
• Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity teams on device security protocols.
• Install, calibrate, and configure equipment per manufacturer instructions.
• Address hazard recalls with manufacturers and departments for swift resolution.
• Perform software repairs and updates on medical devices.
• Maintain CMMS records of maintenance and repairs.
• Provide staff training on networked medical equipment operation.
• Stay updated on biomedical tech trends and regulations.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure seamless equipment operations.
