Job summary

Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, seeks a Network Systems Administrator to support and evolve our enterprise network, spanning wired, wireless, and security platforms. The role manages switching, wireless controllers and access points, routing, NAC, and firewalls to maintain reliability and security while advancing modern network solutions.

The Infrastructure team collaborates closely with Digital Campus and external vendors.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated technical skills related to switching, routing, firewall management, wireless management, network access control rule building, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Management of the wireless network, including controllers, access points, network access control, and SSIDs.
  • Management of wired network, including switches, routers, BGP, and network access control.
  • Management of LAN and WAN firewalls, including rule writing, troubleshooting, and threat hunting.
  • Monitor systems for anomalies and proactively resolve network issues.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies to support collegemodernization and future-facing services.
  • Maintain the College’s extensive fiber plant that serves all 80+ buildings on campus.
  • Empower users and colleagues to solve L1 issues and collaborate on L2/L3 tickets to support day-to-day operations.
  • Documentation of campus network and fiber optic plant.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and based on departmental needs.

Job Description

The position of Network Systems Administrator at Trinity Collegewill be expected to support and evolve our enterprise networkenvironment, which spans wired and wireless network and securityplatforms. This role is responsible for the day-to-day managementof switching, wireless controllers and access points, routing, NAC,and firewalls, while maintaining network reliability and securityfor our users and evolving our systems to keep up with currenttechnologies. The position is part of the Infrastructure team andwill also work closely with the Digital Campus team and externalvendors on all aspects of network infrastructure. The idealcandidate combines strong hands-on networking skills with asystems-oriented mindset and the ability to operate across bothlogical and physical infrastructure domains.

Qualifications
  • Vocational or Technical Training, required
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferred
  • 1-3 years of work experience
  • Demonstrated technical skills related to switching, routing,firewall management, wireless management, network access controlrule building, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate with others within thedivision and across campus
  • Ability to work independently and proactively
  • Good communication practices within and outside of thedivision
  • Excellent customer service skills, with a clear understandingof ITIL principles
