Job summary

Shermco Industries, Inc. is seeking a Field Service Technician - Electrical Testing to perform testing, maintenance, and repair on electrical distribution systems.

The role involves traveling to customer sites to inspect and test low to high voltage equipment and to collect data with a focus on safety and quality. Ideal candidates have an EPC or EE degree, NETA certification (or equivalent), and 2+ years of switchgear testing experience.

Qualifications

• Must be able to drive daily locally/regionally and be available for periodic overnight travel.
• Prefer an Associate’s degree from an accredited 2 year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), or a EE Degree from an ABET accredited college, similar experience and training from the military.
• NETA Certification (I, II, III or IV) or similar desired.
• Must have at least 2 or more years of relevant experience performing switchgear testing & troubleshooting.
• Must have good PC skills including email, internet, data entry and Microsoft Excel; experience with PowerDB a plus.
• Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and data collection for electrical systems (480 V to 600 kV).
• Perform instrument transformer tests.
• Conduct power transformer testing (Doble, TTR, insulation resistance, etc.).
• Test both electro-mechanical and solid state relays.
• Perform cable testing (Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot).
• Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches.
• Test low, medium and high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.
• Carry out moderately complex relay calibration and power metering.
• Rotate on-call duty and respond to emergencies as needed.
